Carthage – Winifred “Winnie” E. Burns, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, while at Carthage Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation with her loving family at her side.
Per her wishes, her services will be held privately by her family.
Winifred was born on January 1, 1943, in West Carthage, NY to the late John Louise & Myrtle Rose (Genzel) Rice. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1961. She married Daniel George Burns on August 24, 1963, at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. She worked as a secretary for John Gray & Bob Cox. Winnie Retired from the Carthage Central School as a bus monitor.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel G. Burns, Carthage; her daughter, Kim (Larry) Beaulieu of Ogdensburg; her son, Robert “Bob” Burns and his companion Liz Canning, Carthage; several grandchildren and 6-great-grandchildren.
Winnie was a member of the United Community Church in Carthage; the Bassett-Baxter American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #789, Carthage, NY. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, especially solitaire, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, her siblings, Nancy Oakes, and Bob Rice, and her daughter, Danyelle Pignone on July 19, 2015.
