Vada I Evans

February 19, 1925 — April 10, 2015

HARRISVILLE - Vada Irene Caswell Evans, 90, 14366 North Shore Rd. Ext., died Friday morning, April 10, 2015 at home after a short illness, surrounded by her family and under the compassionate care of Lewis County Hospice.
Born in Harrisville on February 19th, 1925, to the late Perry and Mary Koster Caswell; she graduated from Harrisville High School with high honors and served as Valedictorian of her senior class. She also graduated with honors from Dover Business College in NJ.
Vada married John (Bill) Evans of Natural Bridge on April 23rd, 1943 and the couple was married for 72 years. After John returned from WWII the couple moved to Wharton, NJ, retired from Landing, NJ and returned to her childhood home in Harrisville. She served as Scout Leader in her daughter's Girl Scout Troop. Vada always promoted education in her family. She proudly worked as a professional secretary her entire working career.
Vada enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She made many specialty blankets and Christmas stockings for family, friends and neighbors.
She loved crossword puzzles, board games and was an avid reader. Vada was a member of the Natural Bridge Methodist Church and was very active in the church before her gradual physical decline. She was deeply loved and will be missed.
She is survived her husband, John at home and three daughters; Kathleen Evans of Harrisville, Susan Evans Esposito (Paul) of Seminole, FL and Marsha Haas of Harrisville. She has five grandchildren; Jerry Lettorale (Sandy) of NJ, Shawn Poole (Bobby) of Gouverneur, Paul Esposito (Adriana) of NJ, Nicole Esposito of FL and Ian Haas of PA, eight great-grandchildren; Mercedes, Matthew, Lilliana, Mariano, Santino, Alessio, Alexis and Cameron and one great-great grandchild, Laiyla. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Caswell (Lorna) of San Jose, CA and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by four siblings, Clarence, Laura Hall, Glenn and Vivian Hill.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, on Tuesday, April 14, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Harrisville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 13 from 4-7 PM.
