CHAMPION - Theodore A. Rice, 73, 35785 New York State Route 126, died Wednesday evening at home, under the care of his family.
Born on June 10, 1941 at home in Natural Bridge, the son of Richard Roy Rice and Mary Jane LaRock. He attended school in Carthage. He married Thelma Shattuck on February 12, 1966. When he was a young man, he worked for Cliff Zehr on his farm, before working for Fulton Iron & Steel in Syracuse and eventually for Liscum's Saw Mill. He was a longtime employee of the Town of Champion, where he was a heavy equipment operator and snow plow driver. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Black River Valley ATV Club and also the Tug Hill Adirondack ATV Association.
Ted is survived by his wife, Thelma, at home and his son and his companion, Mark Rice & Melissa Lance, Carthage, his daughter and her husband, Melody & Richard Woods, 5 grandchildren; Tyler, Jerrid, Kyle, Lanna and Emily and his 2 great-grandchildren; Anton and Abygail. He is predeceased by his half-sister, Rosemary Williams.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11th, with the Rev. Samuel P.
