Susan Benware

August 4, 1951 — January 30, 2017

BLACK RIVER- Susan G. Benware, 65, passed away on Monday morning, January 30, 2017 at her home under the care of her family and private caregivers, Doris, Mary, Sue, and Diane, after a long fought battle with complex medical issues. She was born on August 4, 1951 in West Carthage, the daughter of Clarence Gale & the late Marjorie Elizabeth Houghton Benware.
She graduated from Carthage Central High School in 1969. After high school she went to work for BC/BS of Northern New York for 4 years. In 1973 she started working for Jefferson County as a Senior Data Entry Operator until her retirement in 2006.
Susan served as the treasurer for Watertown Christian Academy and Watertown Christian Women's Club, ministry of Stonecroft Ministries, for several years. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Watertown.
She is survived by her father, Clarence Benware, Black River, three sisters, Penny & (Arthur) Keen, Black River; Sandra & (Roger) Marland, Plattsburgh; and Brenda & (Curtis) Yeary, Irving Texas. She is also survived by 7 nieces and nephews: Michelle Dunn, Joel Keen, Scott Keen, Chris Marland, Andrew Marland, Jodi Barber and Joshua O'Kay.
She is predeceased by her mother, Marjorie Elizabeth Benware in 2009.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, NY 13619. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Goforth, officiating. Susan's nephews will serve as pall bearers: Krister Dunn, Joel Keen, Scott Keen, Chris Marland, Andrew Marland, Jared Barber, and Joshua O'Kay.
