Shirley A. Babcock

Carthage- Shirley A. Babcock, 81, died peacefully on Thursday, May 30^th, 2024, at the Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown. She was born on October 13, 1942, in Carthage, New York to the late Edward and Nina (Larby) Laribee.

She attended Carthage Central High School. While she was primarily a homemaker for her family, Shirley also worked at Fort Drum doing housekeeping and worked for Lollie’s Manufacturing in Carthage. 

Shirley enjoyed baking, cooking, and spending time with her family, where she was always known to have the last word.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Jeff) Covey, Carthage; two sons, Stephen Babcock, Carthage; and Patrick (Angel Ashley) McGillicuddy, Carthage; her grandchildren, Jeff Covey II, Sonya M. Pitkin, Stephan Babcock, Ryan Babcock, Rebekah Babcock, and Cory Babcock; her great-grandchildren, Isabelle Babcock, Landyn Hazzard, and River Rae Tennant.

Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Frederick E. Babcock Sr., and son, Frederick E. Babcock Jr., who died in 2017. She is also predeceased by her companion of many years, Edwin Bridge, who passed in 2018.

Per her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private burial take place at a later date, where she will be laid to rest in St. James Cemetery.
