COPENHAGEN- Ruth E. Carman (Lamphere), 93, of Co. Route 69, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the home of her daughter Wendy, under the care of her family and Jefferson County Hospice.
Ruth was born on May 29, 1924 in Johnson City, NY, a daughter of the late Arthur and Madge Stevens Lamphere. She graduated from Whitney Point High School, where she enjoyed attending a number of class reunions over the years. On August 2, 1946 she married William L. Carman in Castle Creek, NY. She was a homemaker.
Known as Tootie to many of her friends and family, Ruth enjoyed a rich social life of playing cards, watching the New York Yankees baseball, golfing, bowling, as well as boating and motorcycling. Throughout the years, she and William also enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends.
For the past several years, Ruth resided with her daughter and son-in-law in Copenhagen, NY. She lived most of her life in Castle Creek, where she was a very active member of the United Methodist Church Womans Group, alongside many of her close friends and aquaintances.
She is survived by her daugher and son-in-law, Wendy L. (Michael) McDonald, Copenhagen; a grand-daughter, Misty Carman, Perry, NY; a grandson, Keith and his wife (Marcia) McDonald, Scotia, NY; and a daughter-in-law, Elaine Carman, Sanitaria Springs, NY. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their respective families.
Her husband of 56 years, William, died on March 27, 2003. She is also predeceased by her son, William B. Carman, several siblings, a brother, Harold Happy Lamphere, two sisters, Francis Rockwell and Marlene Woodman, a grandson, Robert Carman, and two nephews, James and Ronald Rockwell.
Calling hours will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, 7323 119th St., Whitney Point, NY on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 5-7 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 23 at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Castle Creek.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jefferson County Hospice or a charity of ones choice.
