Roger D. Mono

Roger D. Mono died on Monday, December 3, 2024, at his family home. He was born on April 11, 1953, to the late Gale Mono Sr., & Ida (Gadbaw) in Carthage, New York. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1971.

A marriage to Mary L. Prievo Phelps became his lifelong commitment. Rev Lord married them in the United Methodist Church in Carthage on September 8, 1973. Mary passed away on January 25, 2019.

 Roger was an ordained Minister of the New Testament Fellowship Church. His original calling was to minister to the prison community, which he did for several years. He also led the music ministry for many years. He was often called on to wed couples and to provide comfort by giving the blessing at a friend, family, or community member’s funeral service. A Life Member of the VFW Post 7227 Auxiliary, also.

Roger was a very talented musician in many local bands throughout the years, sharing his love of music and his gifts with the community. 

 He is survived by three daughters, Tamara Lloyd of Syracuse; Deborah and Stanley Atkins of Carthage; Robin and Jonathan May of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Claude and Valerie Phelps of Felts Mills; sister-in-law, Betty Farney of Carthage. Roger’s traveling companions, cooks and forever sisters-in-law Eleanor Mono of Natural Bridge; Jody Mono of Natural Bridge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Ann Phelps, and his brothers, Rickie Mono, Terry Mono, and Gale Mono Jr. 

One of the many joys in his life was his family. Most of all his 9 grandchildren, Christina Atkins, Amanda (Phelps) Garcia, Jennifer and Christopher Johnsen, Chad and Ronda Phelps, Naomi and Ryan Brundrett, Stanley and Annia Atkins, Brent Phelps, Jacob Joyce and Jesse Joyce. He truly loved watching his 13 great-grandchildren grow. Roger also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he cherished, watching them grow, kidding around with him, loving the hunting camp that the 4 boys built, and traveling to see them in other states.

Roger could be found daily at his coffee spot The Superior Grill restaurant, with his many longtime friends.
