Randi Lynn (Newman) Brotherton

September 20, 1969 — February 3, 2024

Carthage, York

Randi Lynn (Newman) Brotherton passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on February 3rd, 2024, after a courageous battle.

Calling hours will be on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 2:00 pm-to 6:00 pm at the Lundy Funeral Home, 500 State St. Carthage, New York.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 12:00 pm in the Chapel of the Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately by her family. A reception will follow at 1:00 pm at the Bassett-Baxter American Legion Post #789 in Carthage.

She was born September 20, 1969, at Carthage Area Hospital to Randy and Cheryl (Segovis) Newman.  She married Matthew Buckley in July 1991.  Tragically, Matthew passed away a year later.  In August of 1995, she married Steve Smith and welcomed two beautiful children, Andrew Jordan Smith, and Alexis Ann Smith.  The marriage ended in 2016.  In July 2021 she married her best friend and soulmate, James Brotherton.  They loved each other deeply and enjoyed every minute they were together.

Randi Lynn taught for 31 years in the Carthage Central School District.  For 17 of those years, she was the Girl’s Varsity Basketball coach.  She touched on the lives of countless students.  She taught them courage and perseverance and her legacy will live on in them.

Randi Lynn had a love for life.  She loved 60’s music, going to Liza’s for a bonfire, riding on her boat in her favorite place, playing with her dogs, golfing, and drinking Miller Lite while riding in her side-by-side.  Any time that she could spend with her family and friends was important to her and her best memories were the antics she had when with them.

Randi Lynn is survived by her husband James, her 2 children Andrew Smith (Marissa Murphy) and Alexis Smith (Billy Norton), her three stepchildren Derek Smith, Shane Brotherton, and Megan Brotherton, her granddaughter Claire Brotherton, her parents Randy and Cheryl (Segovis) Newman, her sister Kim (David) Ruel and her two children (Ian and Cole DePuy), her brother and sister in law Bob and Tammy Brotherton, a sister-in-law, Sherri & Kevin Robinson, and a sister-in-law Kelly Brotherton, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was loved deeply by all. She is predeceased by her first husband Matthew Buckley, her mother and father-in-law Bob and Elsie Brotherton, her brother-in-law Fred Brotherton, her nephew Joshua Brotherton, and her paternal and maternal grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, Randi has requested that donations be made to Hospice of Jefferson County.
