COPENHAGEN- Philip Edward Eggleston, age 60, died peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY. He was born on September 27, 1963, in Albany, NY to the late Bradley Eggleston & Carolyn (Bezy) Montondo. 

A Memorial Service will be held at the Copenhagen United Church on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00 am. 

Philip graduated High School from IHC, in Watertown, NY, he then earned a master’s degree from Suny Potsdam and his Teaching degree from Suny Oswego. He was employed as an Earth Science/ Biology teacher for Carthage Central High School for 14 years, after retirement he was a Pharmaceutical Representative/Adult Vaccine sales rep for Merck & Co. for 10 years. 

He is survived by his stepfather, Arthur Montondo, Chaumont; a son, James E. Smith, Jr. and his wife Mary Rose, Clayton; his siblings, Catherine (Gregory) Jock, Watertown; Ellen (Alan) Majka, Massachusetts; Michael (Liane) Eggleston, Hannawa Falls; his uncles, Lee Eggleston, Robert Bezy, Syracuse; David (Ann) Bezy Georgia; his step-siblings, John (Karen) Montondo, Watertown; Henry Montondo, Henderson; Cathy Montondo-Roberts, Chaumont; his grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Emma Smith, and Marilyn Smith, all of Clayton. He is also survived by his boy scout family.

Philip enjoyed playing the organ for several years at different churches in the local area. He also was a boy scout camp director, he was very instrumental in the fundraising, he earned Eagle Scout, he was also recognized for the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Camp Portaferry Alumni Association. He worked several summers at Camp Portaferry, three of them as camp director
