NATURAL BRIDGE Peter Stuyvesant, 88, of 27423 Backus Rd., died early Thursday evening, February 8, 2018 at home, under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born in York, Great Britain on July 13, 1929, he was educated in Croydon, England. He served in the Royal Air Force and was married to Norma Ainsworth in 1950. The couple moved to the United States in 1955 and he found employment with the Crown Zellerbach Co. in Carthage. He retired as a supervisor in 1988, after 35 years of service.
He was a former member of the Town of Wilna Housing Board, the Carthage Elks Lodge, BPOE #1762, the Natural Bridge Fire Department and the Half Moon Hunting Club.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, at home and his children and their respective spouses; Peter, Paul & Zeline, Debbie Christy & Don Maroney, Lisa & Robert Dionne and Susan & Brent Swanson. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; Andrea, Marie, Matthew, Kevin, Andrew and Abigail and 2 great grandchildren; Calie and Kane. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, John.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Natural Bridge, with the Rev. Frances Hemstreet, Pastor, officiating. A burial will take place in the spring in Hillside Cemetery, Natural Bridge. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
