Peter Leo Rogers

Peter Leo Rogers, 70, of Black River, New York passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at his daughter’s home.  Peter was born in Watertown, NY on October 10, 1953, a son to his loving parents the late Leo and Helen Rogers (Booras). He grew up in Watertown, NY, and attended Watertown City School. Peter enlisted in the United States Army after high school and continued his service in the Army Reserves.

Peter married Cheryl Colombe Wilton on April 23, 1977.  Peter was employed for several years at Champion International Paper Mill. He and his late wife Cheryl moved to Kentucky in 2000 where they both worked for Rocky Top Log Furniture. Upon returning to the North Country in 2012, Peter worked as a maintenance supervisor as well as being employed by FX Caprara Honda.  Peter retired from his position at FX Caprara due to illness.

Peter was best known as Papa to his many grandchildren.  He could often be heard singing songs to them, of which he often made up the lyrics.  You could always find him by following the laughter that he brought to any room.  Not only was he a grandfather but he was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend to anyone lucky enough to know him. Peter’s passions included spending time at Stumpsitters Hunting Lodge with his family, spending his summers at Crystal Lake, waiting to hit it big on lottery tickets, listening to music, and visiting the Chinese buffet.  

Peter is survived by his children Jennifer (Kevin) LaClair of Evans Mills, Emie (Franklin) Hilton of Black River, Peter (Barbara) Rogers of Black River, and Helena (Brock) Stevens of Carthage, NY. Peter leaves behind a total of 14 grandchildren; Summer, Steven, Samuel, Jazmine, Sierra, Zoey, Madisyn, Patrick, Gracie, Olivia, Claire, Zeb, Gregory, and Franklin; several great-grandchildren; brothers Mike and Willie, sisters Michelle, Kim, Gwen, Robin, and Alexandria; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives, and friends. 

Donations in Peter's memory can be made to the Jefferson County Relay for Life in Watertown, NY.

Graveside service will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the North Watertown Cemetery in Watertown, NY.  A gathering will take place, following the service, at the Watertown Eagles Club from 2-6 pm.
