Theresa - Myrtle Pauline Duff, Calhoun, Conger has finally made it to the hopefully pearly gates to greet her beloved family.
Myrtle was born on March 3rd, 1948, in the village of Theresa at her great-grandma’s house. She was the daughter of the late William M. Duff and Irene Gladys Hodge Duff. She graduated from Indian River Central School, Myrtle attended Watertown School of Nursing and graduated in 1968. She worked as a nurse at a variety of places, including several schools, Fort Drum, for the State of New York, and private duty, up until she retired from Indian River School as the school nurse in 2009. After meeting her husband, William, she helped him at his stores and restaurants until October 2022.
She is survived by a brother, James Widrick of Watertown, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is predeceased by her two brothers, Alex (Butch) and Jerry; a sister, Diana. A daughter, Cheri Sue Duffy passed away in 1986 due to a freaky car accident. Many aunts, uncles. cousins are with heavenly father now.
Myrtle’s first marriage, to Rhoderick Calhoun, ended in divorce. She married William Conger in June of 2013 and were happily together until her passing.
Myrtle enjoyed meeting people and met a lot from all over the world. She also enjoyed helping Ryan’s Wish Foundation, collecting donations to help people. She was the first woman in Theresa Ambulance Services. She also started the Little Theresa Theater and worked with children ages four to eighteen. She spent a few years as a Girl Scout Leader and had had 48 years of service to Veterans of Foreign Affairs, Posts of Theresa, and Gouverneur. Myrtle loved Halloween, Christmas, her dogs, and her goats, and was a self-proclaimed crazy country girl.
Per her wishes, there will be no calling hours. “No one visited me while I was here on earth, don’t want them to call on me when I am gone." Burial will happen at a later date, where she will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery next to her daughter, Cheri Sue.
Donations in Myrtle or Cheri Sue's name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Ryan's Wish Foundation.
