Lillian C. Pettey

CARTHAGE Lillian C. Pettey, 97, died on Tuesday morning, October 9, 2018 at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing, where she had been a resident for 21 months.
Lillian was born on July 26, 1921 in Pitcairn, a daughter of the late Leon James and Eliza Carrie (Reed) Coffie. She attended school in Pitcairn. At the age of 13 she began to make homemade bread and sell it door to door.
In 1941, she married Earl Charles Pettey. He died on June 5, 1974.
After having children, she was primarily a homemaker.
Lillian is survived by her children, Charles (Barbara) Pettey, Calcium, NY; Josephine Pettey, Natural Bridge, NY; Elma Johannessen, Belleview, NE; Earl J. (Julie) Pettey, Dexter, NY; Lester Pettey, Evans Mills, NY; 12 grandchildren; as well as multiple great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by two daughters, Lena Platt and Laura Pettey; two sisters, Nettie Merit and Mary Mae Gear; four brothers, James Coffie, Gerald Coffie, Donald Coffie, and her twin brother, Lyle Coffie.
Lillian loved baking, sewing her kids clothing, knitting socks and sweaters, and crocheting. She had a great love for animals, gardening and canning. She loved to walk and even climbed a mountain at 70 years old. Most of all, she loved being a mother.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 3:00 PM at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Natural Bridge where Lillian was a member. Burial in Sandhill Cemetery will be held at a later date.
