Laura Elizabeth Davis

Carthage – Laura Elizabeth Davis, 70, of Carthage, New York, passed away peacefully early morning on December 1, 2023, while at Upstate Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.

Laura was born on December 12, 1952, in Oswego, New York, to the late Robert and Marjorie (Shaw) Guernsey.

She graduated from Oswego High School and continued her education at Suny Oswego where she earned a master’s degree in Secondary Education of Foreign Languages. She taught at both Copenhagen and Sackets Harbor before finding her home at Carthage Middle School. She taught French and Spanish and served as French Club Advisor for many years until her retirement.

Laura’s talents were many and she had many hobbies. She was a talented quilt maker and enjoyed being part of the North County Quilting Guild. She was an active member of the Asbury Ringers hand bell group and enjoyed performing with them at the Asbury United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her monthly lunches with her Red Hat Group and her fellow Carthage Central Retirees. She also volunteered at the Jefferson County Office of the Aging. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Benjamin Davis; her children, Sarah (Johnson) Ulicne and Derek Davis; her stepchildren, Kevin Davis, Sarah Mae Davis, and Austin Davis; her siblings, Robert Guernsey Jr., Michael Guernsey, Janet Siembor, Thomas Guernsey and Kathleen Rushmore; her grandchildren, Brianah Lane, Spencer Therrien, Cooper Therrien, and Chelsea Claud, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and several great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Marjorie Guernsey.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at the Lundy Funeral Home located at 500 State Street Carthage, NY 13619. A Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Funeral Home with Deacon Richard Staab officiating. Burial will be held privately by her family in the spring.
