CARTHAGE Joe Overton, 53, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Hospice of Jefferson County Residence, with his loving family by his side.
Joe was born on March 23, 1966 in Carthage, New York, a son to Dorrance W. and Margaret Rita (Petell) Overton. After the passing of Dorrance, Margaret remarried Anthony Mandell, who ultimately raised Joe. He graduated from Carthage Central School and went on to work various jobs over the years. He was employed as a contractor for a construction company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a time. He also owned his own catering company, known to cater parties for Dan Marino, quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.
Joe loved to flip houses as well as exercise his love for interior design. He also enjoyed gardening and catering events.
He is survived by a son, Zacharia Overton, Ashville, NC; his mother, Margaret Mandell, Carthage, NY; four siblings, Roxanne Robinson, Carthage, NY; Donald Donnie (Zina) Overton, Columbus, GA; Robert Bob Overton, Carthage, NY; Jerry (Tanya) Overton, Carthage, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joe is predeceased by his father, Dorrance Overton, as well as his stepfather, Anthony J. Mandell.
Memorial donations may be made to Joes mother, Margaret Mandell, to help cover funeral service expenses at 5110 Texas Road, Carthage, NY 13619 or 57 North Jefferson St. West Carthage, NY 13619.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 12-2:30 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, NY 13619. A funeral service will immedately follow at 2:30 PM in the funeral home chapel. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the service at the Carthage Recreational Park.
