James L. O'Connor

Carthage- James L. "Bucky" O'Connor, Jr., 83, 600 S. Washington St., passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Carthage Area Hospital.
He was born in West Carthage, on March 27, 1933, the son of James L. & Gertrude Brockway O'Connor, Sr., he attended Carthage Augustinian Academy. He served with the United States Army from April 1951 to April 1954.
A marriage to Beverly Noyes ended in divorce. He married Ilene Arnold on June 9, 2014, at St. James Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun officiating.
"Bucky" was a self-employed barber, and the owner of West Side Barber Shop in West Carthage, he had previously worked alongside his father.
James was a member of the VIP Club and The St. James Catholic Church, the Dionne-Rumble VFW Post #7227, Carthage, the Bassett-Baxter American Legion Post #789 and the Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Carthage Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous for 46 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene, two sons; Robert, Syracuse, Daniel, Auburn, three daughters, Kathleen & Warren Ward, Syracuse, Maureen & Al Corrice, Nedrow and Maryann O'Connor, Syracuse, his step daughter, Sherry Sells, Texas, 22 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sisters in law; Alice & Gordon Campany, Denmark and Rose & Jim Neddo, Croghan.
He is predeceased by his son, Michael.
He was an avid YANKEE fan!
Arrangements are being handled by the Scherer Funeral Home, located at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, July 5, from 4-7 PM at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the St. James Catholic Church, Carthage, with The Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor, officiating.
