Harrisville – Gerald (Gerry) R. Humes, age 82, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 27th, 2024, at Lewis County Hospital, Lowville, NY.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. at 500 State Street in Carthage, NY 13619. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Harrisville United Methodist Church, in Harrisville, NY. A Graveside Service with a burial will follow in the Harrisville Cemetery. 

Born in the Town of Diana on May 25, 1942, the son of the late Lyman R. and Grace L. (Wicks) Humes, he graduated Valedictorian of the Class Of 1959 at Harrisville Central School. He graduated with honors from Canton ATC in 1973. He also attended Clarkson University.

He married Brenda G. Minnick on May 28, 1970, at the Harrisville United Methodist Church with the late Rev. Gerald Schlernitzauer, officiating. The couple lived near Harrisville before moving to Beaverton, Oregon in 1973. They returned to the Harrisville area upon his retirement. 

Mr. Humes retired in 1997 after working as an electronics technician for 11 years for Testec, Beaverton Oregon, where he repaired circuit boards and other components of electronic cash registers. Before that, he worked for Tektronix, Inc. for 13 years in the same city, as an Engineering Assistant, where he designed and built in-house test equipment for cathode ray tubes, and also assisted in the development of applications for microprocessors.

He served in the United States Navy from 1963-1967. He was trained as an electronics technician and his tours of duty took him to the U.S. Naval Radio Station, Isabela, Puerto Rico, and also to the USS Mattabessett (AOG-52) in the Mediterranean Sea with a home port in Norfolk, Virginia. 

As a young man, Mr. Humes worked for Verne A. Wicks in Harrisville, a dealer in building supplies, fuel oil, and maple products; St. Regis Paper Co. in Deferiet, N.Y.; Crown Zellerbach Paper Co. in Wauna, Oregon; and Viking Plows in Harrisville.

Mr. Humes was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church and the Harrisville Rod & Gun Club. He was a director of the Town of Diana Historical Museum and helped refurbish the railroad station where the museum is located. Among his hobbies were hiking, gardening, genealogy, and reading. He also enjoyed bowling and was a 700 Club member. He enjoyed being in the woods and cutting firewood.

He was a wonderful husband and the best uncle and friend you could ever wish for!

Surviving besides his wife, Brenda Humes, Harrisville; are his nieces, Lynn Humes Delgado, Debora Murdock Prasse, Desirae Woodside, Tina Markwick; nephews Richard and Stewart Humes, Teddy, Tim, and Tracy Markwick. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Myron Humes.
