GREAT BEND - Francis E. Pennock, 88, 35360 Jackson II Rd, died Tuesday morning, January 6th, 2015 at the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carthage, with his wife at his side. He had been a resident there since May, 2014.
Born on September 13, 1926 to Charles E. & Lelah E. Erwin Pennock. He graduated from West Carthage High School in 1943. He proudly served in the United State Marine Corps for 22 years, eventually retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant, E7 in October, 1968.
He married Leona E. Gordiner-Barlow on December 23, 1978 in the Town of Champion by the Justice, James Church.
He worked in Champion, Watertown, and Carthage for 20 years as a laborer. He then retired in 1988 as a snow plow driver for the Town of Champion. He also did repair and maintenance work for Charles Welcop in Watertown and garbage work for William Steele in Great Bend.
He was a member and Past Commander of the Carthage VFW Post #7227. He was also a member of the Great Bend and Champion Fire Departments and was a member and the Chaplain of the Jefferson County Fire Police. He was a member of the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church in Great Bend.
He is survived by several Step-Sons, Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Feistel and his brother, Arthur Pennock.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Lundy
Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. Visitation will be held for one hour
prior to the service, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. Memorial services by the VFW and Jeff. Co. Fire Police will be held during that time. Spring burial will be in New St. James Cemetery in Carthage.
