EVANS MILLS - Eleanor "Ellie" Ruth Clark Canell, 80, Rockbrook Rd. died on Sunday morning, November 27, 2016 at the Jefferson County Hospice House.
She was born in Watertown on August 4, 1936 to Kenneth Wood & Helen Elizabeth Zufelt Clark. In 1954, Ellie graduated from the Union Academy of Belleville, Upon graduation she enrolled into the House of the Good Samaritan School of Nursing where she was Assistant Head Nurse from 1959-1962. She was also employed as a School Nurse at Evans Mills Elementary for 4 years, while she was a head nurse and taught nursing at Jefferson Community College.
She was employed by the House of the Good Samaritan as a head nurse from 1962-1977, followed by working as an Intensive Care Unit Nurse from 1977-1980, she was the Nursing Supervisor from 1980-1982, where she transitioned to a Nurse Administrator for the Watertown Correctional Facility from 1982-1989. Ellie found her calling working for the New York State Department of Corrections as the Deputy Superintendent of Programs from 1990, during this time she also was a Director of Central Pharmacy from 1989-1990 and the Project Director/Walsh Medical Center until her retirement in 1998.
A marriage to Leon Canell ended in divorce.
In 1980, she enrolled into the United States Army Reserves, honorably retiring in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Ellie leaves behind three sons and six grandchildren; Brian and his companion, Monica Cronin, Calcium, Brian's sons, Joseph and Jesse, Thomas and his wife, Janet, Evans Mills, their daughters, Megan and Aliza and Brett and his wife, Kathy, their daughters Madison and Kacy.
She is predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Howard "Bud" Clark and David "Dave" Clark.
Calling hours will be held at the on Thursday, December 01, 2016 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 6:00pm followed by Military Honors. A spring burial will be held privately by the family.
