Edna M. Murdock

NATURAL BRIDGE -- Edna M. Murdock, 96, 43324 Strong Rd, died early Friday morning, September 11, 2015 at home under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
She was born on October 12, 1918 in Lewisburg, the daughter of Earl and Ruth Pelky Bonney. She graduated from Carthage High School. She married Dorwin Murdock on February 27, 1937 at home with The Rev. Howard A. Griswold, Pastor of the Westside Church of Christ. She was employed by the United States Governement working on Camp Drum now known as Fort Drum as a Cashier, Warehouse Manager and then the PX Manager retiring after 29 years. She then worked another 10 years at the PX in the Cashier's Cage on Fort Drum.
She is survived by several children and their spouses; Sally & Gary LaVancha, Natural Bridge, Gerald & Billie Murdock, Natural Bridge, Shirley & Dan Christian, Florida and Rose & Michael Dailey, Watertown. She also served as legal guardian to Edwin Stiles of Natural Bridge for 35 years. Also surviving are a nephew, Michael, Arizona, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She is predceased by her husband, Dorwin, her brother and sister in law, Clifton & Beverly Bonney, her son, James Murdock and her nephews, Clifton and Kevin Bonney.
She loved traveling and had visited 49 out of the 50 United States. She also went to seven different countries. She loved crocheting and she would make afgans for the Carthage Area Hospital gift shop.
She always felt her longevity was due to keeping busy, staying healthy and avoiding processed foods.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service., Inc., 500 State St. Carthage. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with her cousin, Jane Neely, officiating. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Natural Bridge. Online condolences can be made at www.lundyfuneralhome.com
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St. Watertown, NY 13601 or the Natural Bridge Hillside Cemetery Association, in care of Terry Countryman.
