Carthage - Donald R. O’Dett, 77, passed away at home on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 15th, 2024, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. located at 500 State Street, Carthage, NY.
Donald was born on July 21st, 1947, to the late Clarence Silas and Edith Alice (Buck) O’Dett. He attended Carthage Central School. He enlisted in the Marines in 1966 and proudly served in Vietnam. Donald worked at the St. Regis Paper Mill in Deferiet and later worked for Carthage Area Hospital as a courier for many years.
Donald married Mary on November 20th, 1982, and they were happily married for 41 years until his passing.
Donald was a family man; he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, acting as the center of family gatherings. When he wasn’t found sitting on the porch visiting with his neighbors, Donald enjoyed going hunting and fishing and spending time in the woods. He loved to socialize with anyone he came across, often putting a smile on their face or making them laugh. He was also a member of the Carthage VFW - Dionne-Rumble Post 7227.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary O’Dett; his children, Timothy of Star Lake, Sherri (Michael) of Carthage, and Meggen (Todd) of Carthage; his grandchildren, Katie Fuller, Chase Fuller, Devin (Samantha) Stiles, LeAnna (Joe) Wormwood, Stanley O’Dett, Linsey O’Dett, Timothy O’Dett, Emma Rogers, Nathan Rogers, Jase Rogers, and Ava Rogers; his great-grandchildren, Mason, Kade, Haisley, and Theo; his sisters, Edith "Arlene" Atkins of Carthage; Nancy Gundersen of Monroe SC; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Edith O’Dett; his brothers, Clarence O'Dett, Ronald O'Dett, Keith O'Dett, Stanley O'Dett, Craig "Marty" O'Dett, and Dennis O’Dett; and his sisters, Lily Tehonica, Jean Hubbard, Vivian Cody, Norma Hubbard, Joan Robinson, and Wanda Church.
