COPENHAGEN --- David W. Petrus, 52, of River Road, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
Born June 24, 1963 in Lowville, the son of Anthony Petrus, Jr. and Sharon Monroe, he was a 1981 graduate of Lowville Central School. He married his high school sweetheart, Rhonda J. Vogt on June 2, 1983.
Dave worked with his father as a dairy farmer for several years where he then joined partnership with Tom and Sharon Fleming. In 1991, Dave and his wife, Rhonda, purchased their own dairy farm that they proudly operated until 2000 when it was lost to a fire. Following the loss of his farm, he worked as a crop farmer, hay broker, and maple syrup producer. Dave was also employed as a bus driver at Copenhagen central school for 16 years.
Dave enjoyed spending his time outdoors hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with this family. Dave took pride in his two grandchildren, Grace and Hunter who called him Papa.
He survived by his wife of 32 years, Rhonda; a son, Broc, his companion, Nikki, Copenhagen; a son, Ryan, his fianc, Ally, Copenhagen; a daughter, Brittany, her fianc, AJ and a son due in August, Copenhagen; a son, Kody, Copenhagen; his father, Anthony Petrus Jr. and wife, Ethel, Copenhagen; his mother Sharon Monroe and husband, Darrell, of Lowville; a sister, Brenda and David Monroe, of Oswego; a brother, Dennis (Gunner) and wife, Judy Petrus of Copenhagen; a half-brother , Duane and his wife Candice Damuth, of Lowville; his mother-in-law, Emily P. Vogt of Carthage; a sister-in-law, Robin and Jim Spaulding; Sister-in-law, Roxanne Spaulding; Brother-in-law, Ronnie and Kim Vogt; several step-brothers, step-sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Anna and Anthony Petrus, Sr; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Majorie Allen; his father-in-law, Robert Vogt; and brother-in-law, Brian Gaines.
Calling hours at Lundy Funeral Home in Copenhagen will be held on Thursday, July 2nd from 4-7PM at the Lundy Chapel in Copenhagen, 10229 Washington Street. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 am, Friday July 3rd, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Copenhagen. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Copenhagen.
