David "Dave" Bates

OXBOW- David "Dave" Raymond Bates, 61, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2017 at Samaritan Medical Center with his beloved wife by his side, after losing his battle with cancer.
Dave was born on September 11, 1955 to Earle Bates & Beverly Robinson Bates of Gouveneur. Dave attended Jefferson Community College where he studied criminal justice. He began his law enforcement career 25 years ago in Antwerp where he later served the community of West Carthage. Dave was married July 20, 2002 in Philadelphia, NY to his "Babygirl" Christine Edwards. They have resided in Oxbow for the past 16 years.
Dave is survived by his wife Christine Bates, his three sons, Todd & Gloria Bates, Teddy & Stacy Bates, and Thomas Bates, his three stepsons, Brandon & Jamie Buckley, Dustin Buckley, and Daniel & Megan Buckley, his siblings Diane & Carl Gamble, Brenda Cook, Durwood & Sandra Bates, Gail & Ernest Hicks, twin brother Douglas & Peggy Bates, Rick & Bonnie Bates, and Mark & Mary Bates.
He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews, and his 2 fur babies Teddy Bear and Paco.
His hobbies included collecting antique toys, watching westerns, and camping. He was very proud of his involvement with the "Shop with a Cop" program.
He is predeceased by his sister Vicky Matthews and her husband Larry.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 2:00-4:00pm, and 5:00-7:00pm at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, NY.
