Carol Jean Harris

COPENHAGEN- Carol Jean Harris, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning August 6, 2024, at the Albany Medical Center, with her loving son Arthur at her side. Carol was born on November 2nd, 1939, to the late Amelia Pearl Benware. 

Carol attended Copenhagen Central High School and worked at the Local General Store in town. This is where she met her husband-to-be, Lionel S. Harris, the couple was married on June 22, 1952. Together they raised four boys, she is survived by her children; David and Kim (Slitter) Harris, Copenhagen; Randy and Roxanne (Babcock) Harris, Carthage; Arthur Harris, Carthage; and Robbie Harris of Copenhagen.

Carol worked various jobs in the area, including Carthage Green Briar Nursing Home, and took care of clients at Rome CNY DSOs for 15 years in her home before her retirement in 2003. Carol loved country music and attended many dances over the years. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Carol was a very well-loved person with an extremely big heart. 

Carol is survived by her four siblings, Neil Dicob, Raymond Dicob, Roger Dicob, and Sheila (Dicob) Sheehan, along with her 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. 

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Lionel Harris, and her sister Shirley Dicob.

Per Carol’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the Hillside Cemetery in Champion.
