Bruce N. Schermerhorn

Carthage – Bruce N. Schermerhorn, 75, of South James Street passed away peacefully on July 27, 2023.

Bruce was born on August 21, 1947, to the late George and Ella (Bartell) Schermerhorn. He attended Carthage Central School District. Bruce joined the U.S. Army in 1969 and was honorably discharged on September 11, 1972.

Bruce retired from the Carthage Paper Mill after working for many years.

Bruce is survived by his siblings, Carl (Betty) Schermerhorn, John Schermerhorn, Chuck Schermerhorn, Mark (Cindy) Schermerhorn, David Schermerhorn, and Lester (Peggy “Hosmer”) Schermerhorn; a sister-in-law, Sharon Schermerhorn; many nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

Bruce is predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Linda (Louie) Gill, Gloria Schermerhorn, George Schermerhorn, Keith Schermerhorn, and Gail Schermerhorn; his sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Schermerhorn, and Shirley Schermerhorn.

Bruce enjoyed a variety of North Country activities, including fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed buying scratch-off lottery tickets.

A graveside service will be held for Bruce at 1:00 p.m. on August 2nd, 2023, at Fairview Cemetery in Carthage. Following the burial, there will be a Celebration of Life at Chuck Schermerhorn’s house.
