DEFERIET - Brenda Ann O’Dett, 83, died peacefully on Sunday morning, May 5, 2024, at the Suny Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. She was born on May 6, 1940, at home in Deferiet, NY to the late Bernard Melbourne & Florence Almira (Wheeler) Arquiett.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, May 9th, 2024, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Lundy Funeral Home, located at 500 State Street in Carthage, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of the Funeral Home. A gathering will be held at the Bassett-Baxter American Legion following the Funeral Service.
She will be buried on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 9:00 am in the Felts Mills Cemetery.
She graduated from Carthage High School in 1959. Brenda married Keith A. O’Dett on August 28, 1960.
Brenda sold Tupperware and was primarily a homemaker while raising her children. She later was employed by the Carthage Central School District as a cleaner, and she also worked in the cafeteria.
She is survived by her children, Melissa (Robert) Warnock of Great Bend, Brian K. (Sherry) O’Dett of Prince George, VA; Chuck (Terre) O’Dett, Watertown; and Bernard O’Dett of Felts Mills; 7 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
She is predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Florence Arquiett; her husband, Keith O’Dett, along with her siblings, Robert Arquiett, Joan Fuller, and Joe Arquiett.
Brenda was a member of the Bassett-Baxter Post #789, where she proudly served on the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Felts Mills Cemetery Association. She was a proud American who understood the importance in honoring our Veterans. Brenda enjoyed cooking, going for walks, and spending time outdoors, where she loved to tend to her flowers and gardens. Brenda also found great joy in seeing pictures of all her loved ones on Facebook.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Veterans Homeless Program of Jefferson County.
