Carthage – Betty Lou SCHERMERHORN, age 82, passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at home surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.
Betty was born February 24, 1942, in Carthage, NY, to the late Harold and Annabelle (Baker) Downey.
Betty married Carlton W. Schermerhorn Sr. on April 4, 1959, in Carthage. Together they raised three children: Mary (Ricky) Wilsie, Carl Jr. (Lynn) Schermerhorn, and Becky Archer, all in Carthage.
Betty is survived by her siblings: Geraldine Slate, Philadelphia, Bev O’Shaughnessy, Deer River, Harold Downey, Lowville, and Pat Mono, Carthage.
Betty is also survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Per her request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lundy Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., located at 500 State Street, Carthage NY, 13619.
