Betsy J (Howes, Clarke) Emery, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, while at Carthage Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, where she had been a patient for a short time.
Per her wishes, Betsy participated in the Anatomical Gift Program. A memorial service will be held in the spring, to be announced at a later date.
Betsy was born on July 16, 1939, in LaFayette, New York, to the late Donald and Inez (Madison) Emery. She graduated from LaFayette Central School. Betsy worked as an advisor for undergraduates at Syracuse University for many years before her retirement.
Betsy was known to have a larger-than-life personality. She loved to chit-chat and visit with anyone who had the pleasure of being around her, and she enjoyed traveling. Devoted to her faith, she was a lifelong member of the LaFayette Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son, Norman Howes of Fulton; a brother, Fred (Lorraine) Emery of LaFayette, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betsy was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Inez; and a daughter, Beth Markowski.
