Barbara G. Stark

January 31, 1922 — November 4, 2017

WATERTOWN -- Barbara Grace Stark, 95, LeRay St., died Saturday morning, November 4, 2017 at the Samaritan Medical Center, where she had been a patient for a short time.
Mrs. Stark was born January 31, 1922 in Croghan; the daughter of the late William Frederick and the late Nellie E. (Miller) Zecher. She graduated from Carthage High School with the Class of 1937, before earning her Bachelors in Education from Potsdam State Teachers College in 1942. She married Wayne E. Stark on June 29, 1943 in New London, Connecticut. She was a teacher for the Beech Ridge School in Croghan from 1942-43, then in Camden from 1945 -46. She then took the position of Second Grade Teacher for the West Carthage Elementary School, until her retirement in 1979. She was an active bowler, golfer and camper. Barbara and her husband were both long term members of the Carlowden Country Club in Denmark, NY. They enjoyed traveling all over the United States. After retirement, they spent their winters in Florida for 28 years. Mr. Stark passed away on March 3, 2014. She was a member of the Belleville-Eudora and Zenith-Copenhagen Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was Worthy Matron numerous times and held the office of Right Worthy District Deputy Grand Matron. She was also a member of Trinity White Shrine and Daughters of the Nile. Her interests were in bible study, crocheting, puzzles and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Gamet (Craig), Rodman, her grandchildren, Steven Gamet (Stacey), of Eldridge, Iowa and Diana Gamet of Boston, Massachusetts; along with two great-grandchildren Kelan and Liam (Steven and Stacey).
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Toby Shilling officiating. Calling hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, November 6, from 3:00 - 6:00 PM.
