Carthage- Anna M. Harper, 97, formerly of Fuller Rd., died on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown.
She was born on October 29, 1919 in Great Bend to the late Kenneth & Emma Burke Gaines and attended school in Great Bend. She married Vernon W. Harper on June 28, 1938 at the Holy Family Church in Watertown. Anna was primarily a homemaker, while her husband ran the farm.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Judy) Harper, Arlington, Texas; David (Brenda) Harper, Carthage; four daughters, Rochelle (George) Waite, Carthage; Carol (David) Stoodley, Adams Center; Diana (George) Ashcraft, Watertown and Laureen (Bill) Duprey, Dexter. Also surviving are her 2 half -brothers, Ronald (Barb) & Kenneth (Phyllis) Gaines, Copenhagen, 22- grandchildren, 40-great grandchildren and 15-great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Vernon W. Harper, 2003, her son, Charles T. Harper, July 4, 1989 and her siblings; Martin, Earl, Claude, Ralph, Ilene, Merlene, Leone, Agnes, Betty, Lorraine and Blanche.
She sold Avon for 40 years. She was a member of the Red Hats Society; she also enjoyed bowling in the Carthage Bowling League.
Arrangements were made with the Scherer Funeral Home; a funeral service will be held in the Chapel the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St., on Sunday, February 19th at 4:00 PM, with the Rev. Thomas James, Pastor of the Anglican Catholic Church, Carthage, officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, prior to the service, from 2-4 PM. Burial will take place in the spring in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Naumburg.
